Warning Signs
 of Dental Infection

There are many signs you may need a root canal. Many people experience a severe toothache or sensitivity to hot and cold when eating. Some will have swelling or tenderness in the jaw or a “pimple” on the gums. These symptoms may indicate you need a root canal.

Why do you need a root canal? There are several causes of needing root canal therapy, but the most common is untreated tooth decay, dental trauma, or a large filling that has been repetitively filled. The best thing to do is maintain routine dental visits with Bright 32 Family Dentistry for early detection of small tooth decay and to help prevent any future pain and discomfort.

Root Canal Treatment at Bright 32

You can be assured that root canal treatment is really no different from a traditional dental filling at Bright 32 Family Dentistry. A root canal is essentially a painless and simple procedure where the nerve of the tooth is removed and then the pulp chamber and canals are cleaned, disinfected, and sealed to prevent any bacterial contamination. We use the highest quality materials to ensure your root canal treatment will restore your dental health.

More than often, you will need a dental crown following your root canal to completely protect the tooth if it is weakened or compromised. A crown will provide your tooth the strength and esthetics needed to last many healthy years.

The root canal process is typically completed in a single office visit, but may require more than one if the infection is severe. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of a root canal, Dr. Brenner would be happy to discuss your sedation options. Call our office today to schedule your root canal evaluation with Dr. Brenner and learn how he can ease your pain!

The Root Canal Process

Dentist Shoreline

Initial Consultation

If you are currently suffering from pain and think you may need a root canal, schedule a virtual consultation with Dr. Brenner so he can evaluate and discuss your needs from the comfort of your home. If it is determined that you may need to have the procedure, he will schedule you for an in-office visit where he will take X-rays to examine the damaged area.

Root Canal Preparation

The root canal process generally begins the same way as a filling, and with no greater discomfort: an anesthetic is administered to numb the tooth as well as the surrounding area. If you are uncomfortable with the idea of an anesthetic or become nervous and/or anxious, Dr. Brenner would be happy to discuss all of your sedation options for a comforting and worry free procedure!

The Procedure

When performing a root canal, a small opening is made in the surface of the affected tooth to give access to the pulp chamber and root canals. Tiny instruments are used to remove tissue from inside these narrow passageways. The chamber and empty canals are cleaned, disinfected, and prepared to receive a filling. Lastly, adhesive cement is used to seal the opening in the tooth.

Post Care

It is normal to experience temporary discomfort and numbness at the root canal tooth site. This can be relieved with over-the-counter pain medication as well as to avoid biting hard until numbness subsides. Most people can go about their daily business almost immediately following a root canal. If you have any questions or concerns, our team at Bright 32 is always here to help!
